about
On her draag me remix, Fire-Toolz (aka Angel Marcloid) offers the complete reconstruction of this deeply emotional track. Stretching it to nearly triple its original length, she provides listeners with an alternate way of experiencing the song's heart-wrenching lyrics.
She begins with a robust instrumental section where intricate beats are paired with a focus on the track's beautiful strings. The atmosphere at first seems to suggest hope or optimism. However, in typical Fire-Toolz fashion, things then begin to disintegrate, self-destruct, and reassemble themselves into bizarre patterns of noise, with countless, rapid-fire piano notes dancing through the stereo field. In a move of production brilliance, these two movements set the stage for the remix's final section, where Zack Schwartz's vocals finally make an appearance. The tender beauty of his voice arrives in a way that makes you instantly realize you'd been missing it.
"faces of vultures" originally appears on draag me's album "lord of the shithouse" (Doom Trip, 2023) - Vinyl / Cassettes available

Listening to this a few years on, Chapter 319 feels almost melancholic, a reminder of the time where police abolition had nearly mainstream appeal. The tracks still make me furious at the bullshit cops continue to get away with. dninemfive
